Hi, I'm Karen,
CLINICAL NATUROPATH • HERBALIST • CERTIFIED NLP MASTER PRACTITIONER • TRAINER & COACH
I've likely walked some version of the road or path you're on — a long, windy one, with real ups and downs. I bring everything I've learned along that road into how I work with you, because I walk the talk with myself too. I don't believe there's a “should” when it comes to where you're at — no should have, no could have. That's often a predetermined judgement others place on you, or one you quietly place on yourself. There's zero judgement here. I've quite likely been exactly where you are. There's no push to move faster than you're ready for — though I will admit, I like to plant a seed. A little information to sit with, in your own time, so it's there when you're ready to reach for it. There was a time my own nervous system load became too much — life felt like it had put the brakes on for me. I wanted to be mostly in my comfortable home, where it felt safe, no push to be or do. My partner, my friends and family noticed the world I played in before wasn't enticing to me anymore. It felt strange even trying to ask for what I actually needed — because I didn't yet understand the why, or how to change it. Not all naturopathic care looks the same. When I was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid dis-ease at 30, the naturopath I saw helped me through the acute crisis — and I was genuinely grateful for that support. He cared, I could tell that much. But he seemed hyper himself, and I don't think he had the wisdom or the presence to truly see me — something I've come to understand matters more than almost anything else in this work. It's part of why I pride myself on regulating myself before and during every client session: an unregulated practitioner simply can't offer the same quality of presence, no matter how much they genuinely care. Looking back, I can see his approach wasn't truly integrated either, and it didn't address the actual cause — more a case of trying some natural medicines and hoping for the best, than genuinely connecting the dots. That was maybe 20% of what real, connected, educating and empowering care could offer. My autoimmune thyroid condition is now a thing of the past — because I properly addressed the real drivers, one of the biggest being my gut and a gluten sensitivity, alongside a highly dysregulated nervous system. That's exactly what The Foundation and your Blueprint are designed to uncover for you, and what Tier 2 and Tier 3 go deeper into, working with your past, now, and future self. The level of change often matches your desire for change. It's rarely one big leap — more often, it's small steps matched to what you actually want, to your comfort zone, your nervous system's resilience, or your willingness to step into a new version of yourself when you're genuinely ready. This isn't a one-and-done thing — and maintaining wellness takes conscious effort too, not just overcoming the initial challenge. It's about awakening awareness and insight, addressing what you're open to right now, and knowing you can always come back for more depth later — when you want to, on your own timeline, working from your outcome and your now self. Here's something important I've learned: you often can't keep healing at the same level of thinking, feeling, and acting that got you stuck in the first place. Real change asked more of me than I expected. It wasn't just internal work. My relationship changed. My work changed. Even my home changed. True healing sometimes asks for big change, not just small internal shifts.

HOW I WORK
The Clinical Foundation Behind Brain Body Life
I don't believe in guesswork, surface-level fixes, or generic health protocols. My clinical approach is grounded in over 25 years of hands-on experience in natural medicine, neuroscience coaching, and lifestyle medicine — the real-world influencers of diet, movement, rest, connection, and how you think and respond — that shape your health day to day — and in real evidence of what actually works, with my clients, and with myself. By combining rigorous biological science with tools that shift the lens through which you see yourself and your world, I design deeply personalised pathways for you — you set the pace, the outcomes, the future self, and the possibilities along the way.
Why the Brain Body Life approach is different
TRUE INDIVIDUALISATION
One woman's midlife transition involves high anxiety; another's brings profound insomnia or a dysregulated nervous system stuck in overdrive. I design a plan built specifically around your own biology, tailored to your specific presentation.
ROOT-CAUSE INVESTIGATION
I look past surface-level symptoms. I investigate the underlying drivers — analyzing your gut, hormonal health, nervous system regulation, liver clearance pathways, systemic inflammation, and metabolic markers.
THE MIND-BODY LOOP
Physical protocols fail if your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight mode. Coaching that supports your body's natural healing and stress response, lowering systemic cortisol and allowing your body to step into restoring mode.
Professional Qualifications
CLINICAL TRAINING IN NATUROPATHY
An evidence-informed approach combining traditional healing wisdom with modern science — uncovering the root causes behind your symptoms, and treating them, not just naming them. I work with your body's own innate capacity to heal, actively removing what's genuinely getting in its way, rather than simply suppressing what shows up. My role is as much teacher as clinician — helping you understand your own body well enough to sustain this for yourself, long after our work together ends. Diploma in Natural Therapeutics, South Pacific College of Natural Therapeutics (now South Pacific College of Natural Medicine), 1995 Registered with Naturopaths & Medical Herbalists of New Zealand (Inc)
MEDICAL HERBALISM
Formulating bespoke, practitioner-grade trusted quality remedies from our clinical dispensary — a select few practitioner ranges I can only supply because I'm registered and trained to. I love working with adaptogens especially — herbs like Holy Basil, Rehmannia, Skullcap, Passionflower, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, and Withania — matching the right one precisely to what someone actually needs, calming or stimulating, depending on where their body's really at. My own go-to to take the edge off, fast? Kava and Passionflower. In my own life, herbalism has been one of the most consistent daily supports I lean on. Postgraduate Diploma in Phytotherapy (Medical Herbalism), Southern Cross Herbal School, Australia, 1996 Registered with Naturopaths & Medical Herbalists of New Zealand (Inc)
NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING & NEUROSCIENCE
I use NLP in my own way — the same as most well-known teachers in this space. Like them, I've built my own framework over time, refined by noticing what genuinely works in practice. These are techniques that work with your brain's real, well-documented capacity for neuroplasticity — rewiring subconscious patterns and building lasting new habits through the same repetition-based mechanisms your brain uses to learn anything new. I use these tools on myself as much as on clients; it's genuinely part of how I keep expanding. Certified Practitioner, Art and Science of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (INLPTA), 1999 Certified Business Communications Master Practitioner, Art and Science of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (INLPTA), 2005 Certified Trainer, Art and Science of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (INLPTA), 2005
ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I maintain a continuous, self-directed study of neuroscience through The Neuroscience Academy Self-Study Program (Dr. Sarah McKay), alongside ongoing educational webinars, books, and staying current with the latest research in peri/menopause and natural medicine. I value growth — for my clients, and for my own health — there's always more to learn.
